Filter & Heater bought brand new
for a over a hundred dollars total (from petsmart or petco, can't remember which) about five or six years ago.
Center piece broke off but still present (the piece that goes between the two pairs of filters). If you can secure this back down, it would work just fine.
I tried a hot glue gun (non-harmful to fish) which revived it for another six months, but it came loose again and I finally succumbed to the inevitable and purchased a new filter altogether.
The bottom of the cylinder that attaches to the spinning "impeller" thingy is also half broken, but it will still stay in place. If the exposed top of the heater gets bumped and leans out of place, the filter makes some racket, but putting it upright again fixes this.
Because the cylinder thing is not perfectly straight, the lid sometimes vibrates or rattles. I sat something heavy on top of it, which worked reasonably well. It's not silent, but I've heard noisier filters that were brand new.
There is also a power box (cord attaches to this) which originally detached for more thorough cleaning purposes, but has since been hot glued and duct taped on, because it once fell off and flooded my room with over sixty gallons of water. =/
That was not a fun day, but it has never leaked since the "redneckian" patch job.
It used to have a "wet/dry" sponge, but it sounded like a small waterfall with that in and it got dirty literally every day, so I took it out and we've moved three times, so it's probably lost for good by now. It's always worked just fine without it, though.
200 watt Heating Capsule works excellent, but cannot be used without this filter system (or at least another TetraTec filter, may or may not have to be a TetraTec 500.)
This sells seperately for $30 by itself, and this one is in excellent condition.
Filters not included, but it takes standard "Large" filters (can use both the half-plastic blue kind or the white 'biobag' sleeve-like ones.)
It was a great filter back in its day, and loyally served me and my fish for many years, so I just don't have the heart to throw it away, when with a couple of fixes, it has numerous more years of life in it.
